Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the Diocese of Evansville’s Expanded Criminal History Check?
As per Indiana code 20-26-2-1.5, the Expanded Criminal History Check includes the following:
A search of an Indiana statewide criminal database is also included.
Why do you need my Social Security Number?
The Social Security Number is used to verify the identity of the applicant, as well as to verify address history. The addresses discovered in the Social Security Number trace are used to determine the counties of residence in which to conduct the detailed county-level criminal history searches described in state law.
The release forms refer to credit reports. Is the diocese checking my credit history?
The Diocese of Evansville only runs a credit history report on applicants for positions whose job description includes access to significant funds. However, because of the Social Security Number trace that is used to verify identity and address history, the language related to credit is required to be included for all applicants by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
I already have a recent background check from applying for another job; do I still need to pay for a new one?
The diocese will accept an outside background check only if it meets the full requirements under state law as described above, and only if it is from the current hiring cycle. If you can provide a copy of a background check that you believe meets this criteria, please submit it to the Catholic Schools Office for review.
I do not have a credit card, or am uncomfortable with providing my credit card information online.
Our professional background check company, Selection.com, has several layers of security in place to protect your information in its Fastrax applicant entry system. However, if you are not comfortable submitting the information electronically, please contact the school where you are applying or the diocesan Safe Environment Coordinator at 812-424-5536 to assist you.
