“Teaching was central to the ministry of Jesus.” In the missionary mandate in Matthew this ministry of teaching is shared with Jesus’ followers, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to believe all that I have commanded you.” NDC, p. 183
Our Mission:
The mission of the Office of Catechesis is to provide professional and catechetical resources for quality faith formation for people of all ages in the Diocese of Evansville.
Catechesis is one of those mysterious, and essentially, Catholic words that shares its root with so many others….catechumen, catechism, and catechist. The word Catechesis comes from the Greek and means “to echo,” to “resound to sound” essentially to bring life to the Word. All the baptized share in the task of catechesis---to bring the Word of God to life, to bring flesh to God, to make God visible by living the Word.
