Marriage Preparation begins when children model their Catholic parents; mature in their Catholic community; come to understand their worth in God's eyes and live out their unique Baptismal call.
Marriage Preparation is a lifelong journey (just ask any married couple).
If you are engaged and plan to get married in the Diocese of Evansville, then first we want to say Congrats! Marriage is a wonderful Catholic calling. Second, we want to offer you the below marriage/wedding preparation steps for the Big Day!
MARRIAGE PREP STEPS
STEP 1: Speak with your parish/priest regarding paperwork you will need for the parish and about marriage preparation programs available at your parish. With your Pastor's guidance, then move to the appropriate STEPS 2-5.
STEP 2: Complete and review the FOCCUS inventory. This is a questionnaire that you and your fiance complete separately and then come together to discuss with your pastor.
STEP 3: Attend either an UNVEILED Marriage Prep retreat OR a Sponsor Couple program through your parish. (NOTE: Not all parishes have Sponsor Couple programs, so you will want to discuss options with your parish).
STEP 4: Attend a FREE, 45-minute session about Natural Family Planning. This course is called the Truth about NFP and is scheduled throughout the Diocese or you can schedule a virtual meeting. GO HERE FOR NFP CLASS TIMES AND LOCATIONS: www.evdio.org/natural-family-planning.html
Contact Eric Girten at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions...
NOTE: The online Unveiled marriage preparation option, which was offered during 2020, will be offered until the end of 2021. In-Person retreats will occur again in 2022.
