2023 St. Maria Goretti Youth Distinction

St. Maria Goretti Biography
When: Sunday, March 12, 2023, 2:00 pm CST (candidates should arrive by 1:30pm CST)
Where: St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville
Who: Recipients of this distinction along with their family members
 are encouraged to attend
Due Dates/Deadlines:
  • Parishes should complete the online application form by Friday, February 17, 2023 to ensure that a plaque, letters, and certificate are available for the ceremony. See online application link below.
  • Letters should be received by the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry by mail or email (see below) by Wednesday, March  1, 2023.

Purpose

The purpose of the Saint Maria Goretti Youth Distinction is to recognize young people for their outstanding faith, service, and dedication to the mission of the Catholic Church in their local community. This distinction helps to encourage youth on their path to holiness. The distinction is celebrated with Mass along with a ceremony to recognize each individual that receives it.

Eligibility

Any high school student who actively strives to live out his/her Catholic faith is eligible to receive this distinction.  It is recommended that a parish honor juniors or seniors in high school. However, grade or age should not be the sole determinant in selecting those to be honored.

It is highly encouraged that each parish nominate no more than two individuals, preferably one boy and one girl. You may also have just one nomination and in some cases none. Contact Jeremy at jgoebel@evdio.org if you have more than two people that you would like to consider as recipients.

Parish involvement should be heavily considered as a criteria for the recipient chosen. However, this
is a recognition of the youth’s involvement in other aspects of life, including family, parish, community, and school.

Online Application Portal

A parish representative will complete the application form prior to sending letters. The online application must be completed prior to the deadline of February 17, 2023.  All  letters should arrive electronically or through the mail by March 1, 2023.  Click the Online Application button below to begin.
