WYD Seoul Interest Form

What is World Youth Day?
World Youth Day (WYD) is a worldwide encounter with the Pope which is typically celebrated every three years in a different country. Pope John Paul II announced the institution of World Youth Day in December, 1985. The most recent WYD was celebrated in Panama City, Panamá in 2019 and this next World Youth Day will be held in Lisbon, Portugal in 2023.

WYD is an opportunity to experience in first person the universality of the Church; to share with the whole world the hope of many young people who want to commit themselves to Christ and others. World Youth Day is a unique way to deepen your faith and grow closer to Christ, by means of prayer and the sacraments, together with thousands of other young people who share your interests and ambitions.

Who can Attend?

World Youth Day is primarily for youth and young adults (ages 16-35). Those over 35 years old are certainly welcome if they are a chaplain for the group, a legal parent / guardian of a minor, or a parish group leader.
  • Minors age 18 or under must be accompanied by a legal parent/guardian.
  • 18 year-olds must have graduated from high school (or above applies).
  • All adults must successfully complete Diocesan Safe Environment Training and complete a Criminal Background Check before departure.
  • Participants must agree to the terms of the Diocesan Codes of Conduct.
  • Participants will need to be able to walk up to 10 miles on certain days throughout the trip. Please keep in mind that this is more of a pilgrimage than a vacation.
"Each minor (aged 16 & 17) must have an adult responsible for them in [Seoul]."
-US Conference of Catholic Bishops
